Louise Nevelson

Claes Oldenburg

How cool is this?

Jean Arp

Jean Arp was born on the 16th of September 1886 in Strasbourg, German Empire. His work is both painting and sculpture and is a bit hard to get a read on. His pieces at first glance look like blobs of nothing. Which in the long run makes sense because one of the styles of art he did was Dada or a sort of anti-art.

Magzor Gyalmo

I chose to blog about this originally because it stuck out to me. It's a very attention grabbing piece, clearly. I have a fascination with Asian art since it's so diverse and unique and so detailed. Reading it's description I learned the piece is based on a major Tibetan deity named Magzor Gyalmo or "Queen that repels armies". Her description is eerie as well since she wears human skulls and flayed human skin! I love this piece-made from wood among other materials it is sinister but also culturally fascinating and I'm so glad I found it! Also I feel compelled to mention her mule stands in a sea of blood.

Anish Kapoor

Anish Kapoor is a rather interesting artist. I actually have experienced his art when I went to Chicago and saw "The Bean".
A large, highly-polished, mirrored bean-shaped sculpture seen from the east, reflecting the skyscrapers to the north along East Randolph Street (The Heritage, Smurfit-Stone Building, Two Prudential Plaza, One Prudential Plaza, and Aon Center.
Despite the fact I normally am not a fan of abstract public displays-nothing against them they're just not my style. But I found his art very interesting to look at and creative.

Morisol Escobar-or simply Marisol-is a rather interesting artist. Despite this I am not a huge fan of her work. I respect it of course but it just isn't my "type". Something about the boxy-ness puts me off.

Ice is nice

Since it is the holiday season and winter is upon us, I thought I would share some of my favourite type of sculpture, that being ice sculpture.
Ice sculpting is actually fairly popular around the world and festivals are held to display the different types people come up with.

Even still as you can see by the picture above, some people go the extra mile and create gorgeous Ice Palaces that you can actually stay in like this one from Canada based off of "Frozen"
